THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY On Sept. 4, Brazilian runner Terezinha Guilhermina, competing in the 400m at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, did not finish after her guide, Guilherme Soares de Santana, fell in the final straightaway. On Sept. 6, however, the duo completed the 100m in world record time, giving both the gold medal. 2012 was the first Paralympics in which both runners and their guides were awarded medals.
